Which Spray Paint Should You Choose? A Straightforward Guide
Walk into our shop at Smithfield Market and the first question we get asked is nearly always the same: which paint should I get? Here's the honest answer we give over the counter, range by range.
High pressure vs low pressure
High pressure cans (Montana BLACK, Flame Orange) push more paint out faster. They're built for speed — big fills, quick coverage, outdoor work in less-than-perfect conditions. Low pressure cans (MTN 94, Belton Premium) give you more control at the cap, which makes them the choice for detail, fades, and canvas or mural work where precision matters more than speed.
The everyday workhorses
Flame Orange 400ml is the value pick — solid matt coverage at a price that lets you buy in bulk. Montana BLACK 400ml is the classic high-pressure all-rounder: winterproof, matt, and available in nearly 200 colours. MTN 94 is the low-pressure favourite for controlled work, and Belton Premium offers the biggest colour chart of the lot with a famously smooth valve.
Bigger cans for bigger walls
When the wall grows, so should the can. The 600ml options — Montana BLACK 600ml, Flame Orange 600ml, MTN Mega and the chrome legend that is the Molotow Burner — carry half as much paint again. For serious coverage there are the 750ml monsters: Montana Ultra Wide, MTN Mad Maxxx and MTN Maximo.
Specials worth knowing about
MTN Nitro 2G is a 500ml can of high-covering nitro paint in black, white and chrome — a favourite for bold, fast work. Montana CHALK washes off, which makes it ideal for temporary marking. And our effects and speciality ranges cover everything from glow-in-the-dark to crackle and glitter.
